HOW OFTEN SHOULD SOLAR PANELS BE CLEANED?Although annual or six monthly cleaning intervals is normal, several other environmental factors should be considered when scheduling solar panel soft washing;
The proximity to dusty environments. . . panels near main roads, the sea, or on farmland should be cleaned more frequently to remove road grime, salt deposits or dust.
The pitch of the panels will affect how easily dirt can adhere to their surfaces. The shallow the array (especially below 15º), the more often they should be soft washed to maintain efficiency.
Local bird populations. Most important in rural areas or near the coast, the soiling left by wild birds and gulls can significantly reduce the amount of sunlight able to reach on the photo-voltaic cells.
The frequency of cleaning is also an important factor. Dirty panels provide a 'key' to which further dust and grime can more easily adhere.
Your Feed-in Tariff rate will dictate the direct financial benefit to be gained from solar panel cleaning.
A drop in output is often the most obvious signal that your panels need to be cleaned.
